About The Near Death Experience
(NDE)
For many persons the mere mention of death, is
in bad taste, arousing as it does the uncertainty that most of
us experience when we look death in the eye. Thanks to the advances
of medical science, there are a growing number of persons for
whom death means something entirely different. These are those
who have experienced death, and returned with memories of what
it was like to die. For the vast majority of these people their
experience of death has been an overwhelmingly positive, transformative
experience that has irrevocably changed their lives.
The NDE phenomenon was first identified in the
mid 1970s by Raymond Moody MD, who first collected the stories
of those who had been resuscitated from death's door. In the years
that have followed, literally thousands of persons who have experienced
an NDE have been interviewed world wide. The experience has been
found to be stable across cultures, with a person's spiritual
belief impacting upon the interpretation of the experience, but
not its actual content, or form. Research indicates that between
30 -50 % of all persons who are physically close to death, will
report an NDE, if approached in an open minded, and accepting
manner.
Certainly, irrespective of one's opinion on the
cause, or basis for the NDE, that they exist is as undeniable
as the transformative effect that they have had on countless thousands
of lives.
