For Further Information
on NDEs
All of the following
sites are highly recommended for one reason or another. It is
important, however, to be aware of the fact that few are unbiased
and often the sites stray into areas that are pure metaphysics,
theology, or make seemingly outlandish claims about the universe.
We suggest that when
reading about NDEs and Paranormal phenomena generally, people
are best advised to retain a healthy dose of skepticism. Needless
to say, this also applies to sites that are themselves "skeptical"!
International
Association of Near Death Studies (IANDS)
IANDS have to be considered the premier clearinghouse
of all NDE related information in the world. They are an excellent
starting point and have excellent information about all aspects
of the NDE. In addition, they publish both newsletters and a Research
Journal. Their list of resources is second to none.
Dr P.M.H.
Atwater's Personal Homepage
Dr Atwater is one of the more outstanding researchers
into the NDE Phenomenon. She has written many books on the topic,
any of which I can hightly recommend. She is herself an NDEr,
and found herself propelled into NDE research as a result of attempting
to come to terms with her own experiences. She represents quite
a controvertial figure, in that she was the first mainstream researcher
to point out that NDErs are still human and subject to the same
human failings of hubris and ego as the rest of us.
Dr
Melvin Morse's Personal Homepage
Melvin Morse is a pacticing pediatrician in Seattle,
and also the leading researcher of NDEs in children. He was unusual
in that he became involved in NDE research after encountering
children who retold NDEs in which they were able to provide him
with information regarding events occurred when they where in
fact clinically dead. Melvin has co-authoured several excellent
books, regarding Children's NDEs with Paul Perry. In a more recent
book, "Where God Lives", he has endevoured to provide
a scientific explaination of our brain's linkage to the paranormal.
Kevin William's
"Grand Central Station of NDEs
Kevin Williams had produced what is probably the
most complete "clearing house" of NDE information on
the internet. If anything, his site contains too much information,
but if it is on the web, the odds are that he will have a link
to it somewhere!!
The Near Death Experience
Research Foundation (NDERF)
NDERF claim to have "the largest selection
of published NDE accounts in the world", which we can't actually
verify, although they certainly have a huge number recorded. The
beauty of this site though is that it has multilingual content,
which makes it an excellent site for those with a Non-English
Speaking Background.
Hallucinatory
Near-Death Experiences (2003)
Keith Augustine has written an excellent skeptical
assessment of the Near Death Experience, in which he critically
analyses much of the research conducted. While some reader's might
find his wide ranging debunking of the NDE to be a little dry
and academic, we heartily encourage people to have a read, if
for no other reason than to understand why the NDE remains such
a controversial issue today.
